Support Mads' Recovery and Family Needs
Donation protected
TLDR: My partner, Mads was fired yesterday after his transmission failed and he was unable to get to work. This sent him into a spiral and he will now be in a mental health facility for an unknown amount of time by his own request. While he is recovering I am scrambling to find a way to make sure all of our bills are paid and necessities are met, and navigating how we will pay for this hospital visit when he no longer has health insurance.
If you cannot donate towards bills, I have also made an Amazon wishlist of our animal’s food. Dog toys are also greatly appreciated as we are running low. https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/1KTGGODECYRDR?ref_=wl_share
The full story
My partner, Mads, works for a company we’ll call K but is contracted to another company we’ll call M. Mads is the primary income earner in our household, earning about double what I do. Three months ago, after an underperforming employee at K quit, Mads and a coworker were placed on Personal Improvement Plans (PIPs), despite previously receiving positive reviews. When Mads sought feedback, management at M confirmed he was performing well, while K provided vague criticisms with no specific examples of underperformance. Notably, the instances cited by K occurred during Mads' recovery from intensive gender-affirming surgery, during which he was advised to take it easy.
During this time, we lived in a remote area with unreliable internet, and no hot water for our last 3 months, adding to the challenges of Mads' recovery. After moving to a better location with hot water and reliable internet, Mads became more productive, documenting all his work activities to demonstrate his productivity. However, his reviews remained vague, leaving him uncertain about his standing. Just days before his termination, he was removed from his PIP and reassured about his job security.
On September 25th, Mads' transmission broke down on the way to work. After I helped him arrange a rental car, he received a call from K and was fired for not making it to work, despite being told days earlier that he was not on probation. This conversation included repeated misgendering, which added to the distress of the situation. Mads, already struggling with his mental health and unsatisfied with his long-term medication, became overwhelmed and chose to seek inpatient care.
With Mads losing his job, we now face a monthly shortfall of $3,114 in covering necessities. To address this, I set up a GoFundMe for $13,000 to cover our basic bills over the next three months while Mads seeks unemployment benefits and a new job. I've also taken on a second job for October, but it will not be enough. Additionally, we’re unsure how to manage potential hospital bills since Mads lost his insurance the day he was fired and cannot apply for Medicare until after his discharge.
Thank you for reading and understanding, and we greatly appreciate ANY help we can get.
