Support for Mafe’s Fight Against Breast Cancer
It’s never easy watching a loved one battle cancer. My twin sister, Maria Fernanda, recently felt a lump on her breast and immediately scheduled an appointment with her OBGYN. Upon examination, she was told that they needed to biopsy the tumor. With the results of the biopsy, at just 26-years old, she was diagnosed with stage 2A Breast Cancer. She immediately kicked into survival mode and been proactive ever since. Throughout these difficult times she inspires me and everyone around her with radiance, determination, and positivity. She has recently began chemotherapy, and with successful treatment, it is possible that she will not require a double mastectomy. As her treatment moves forward, we’re continuing to learn more about this disease and what to expect.
Mafe was only 18 years old when she moved to the United States on her own from Colombia. She is currently a full time student and only two semesters away from graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design. For the last several years she’s worked multiple jobs in order to put herself through college. While undergoing chemotherapy, she is simultaneously going to school full time. Her diagnosis has not deterred her from staying strong and graduating college. The doctor appointments, treatments, medications, imaging, and scans have left a lasting financial strain on her. Mafe continues to incur momentous debt as she fights to survive. Nobody should face this alone. Any donation, even just $5, will allow her to continue with treatment and get through these rough times. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for any contribution you can make.
