My name is Maggie Watson. I’m 19 years old and a sophomore at Franciscan University. I have a 4.0 and I pay for school myself. I’m number 8 of 10 kids and I come from a blue collar and military family.
I rode a small motorcycle when I was home from school on breaks. I used it to get to work and run errands near by.
On January 9th, just two days before my flight back to school I was crushed by a driver who raced across three lanes to broadside me with his car.
I was rushed via ambulance to the nearest trauma center. I learned my femur was broken along with my tibia and fibula being broken at the ankle. All of my ligaments around my ankle were torn. Possibly most severe was the wound on my ankle that exposed tendon and bone.
To date, I have had three different hospital stays in multiple hospitals, totaling over three weeks in-patient. As of February 21st I am still in the hospital. I have had 5 surgeries, 4 of them over the course of 8 days. Last week, I had one Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
I required 3 ambulances rides in total. 1 of them was from the accident scene to the nearest trauma center. The others were multiple hours long. I was transported from the trauma center here to Blake medical center and back.
Sadly the person who is at fault for this entire incident didn’t have any bodily injury coverage nor any assets. After consulting with three different attorneys I am aware that all of the financial responsibility rests with me. “He’s Uncollectable.” They said.
Thank you all for all your prayers and kind words throughout this difficult journey. Please continue to help with me on this, your contribution will lighten the financial burden this whole experience has had on me and my family.
Alone it would be impossible but with your support I can focus my energy on getting better. Thank you in advance, every donation makes a huge difference.
UPDATE - April 3rd, yesterday I had my seventh and possibly final surgery. I am so lucky to still have my foot and to be improving so well. I’m recovering at home as I have been for the past few weeks. Unfortunately bills have started to roll in with just my first surgery costing around 21,000 to the surgeon and 10,000 to the anesthesia. Please continue to share this go fund me to assist me in tackling these bills.
