I Have Officially Graduated from Law School!
This is a dream come true and is a testament to the unwavering support, prayers, and motivation that I get from my community. I am deeply grateful to each one of you; indeed, it takes a village.
To become the first lawyer in the family is a goal that I have, not for myself but for all those who have believed in me. As a first-generation law student, it has been all because of your faith in me that takes me further into pursuing my calling into law. Your prayers and support have continually made possible what seemed impossible, renewing my hope and determination. In law school, I have been an active member in leadership positions showing my commitment to community service and diversity. For instance, I currently serve as the President for the Sports and Entertainment Law Society and the Creative Director for the Black Law Students' Association. I do community work further afield—former Board Director for the National Campus/Community Radio Association, seeking more and better media representation for Indigenous communities—though that has since been a passion for equity and justice within the legal profession.
The death of my friend, Jason Solomon, in 2018 meant a turning point for me.
Jason and I were students in the Criminology program at the University of Windsor with aspirations of law school. His tragic death right before my final year shattered me completely. Amidst the grief that many of us experienced, I persisted and was humbled to be the first recipient of what would become the Jason Solomon Rise Above Scholarship, established to support marginalized students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement.
I live my life for Jason and others whose dreams and aspirations were destroyed by gun violence and many other systemic issues in our community.
I have worked tirelessly to carve my path, receiving every position through knocking on doors, advocating, and God's favor. My law school journey has been marked by resilience and perseverance. Balancing multiple jobs to finance my education, I faced numerous hardships. These experiences have honed my work ethic, deepened my reliance on God, and reinforced my pursuit of a legal career.
My story was featured in Toronto Metropolitan University's "Made of Grit" campaign, highlighting the resilience and determination that define our academic community. Sharing my journey has allowed me to inspire others facing similar challenges, and unexpectedly, has made me the face of perseverance and strength at the university.
How You Can Help
Financial Contributions: Any amount you can give will be a blessing and greatly appreciated. Your generosity will directly support my bar exam fees and tuition costs.
Encouraging Words: Please feel free to leave a comment with an encouraging message. Your words of support and faith are the fuel that keeps me going.
Philippians 4:19 says, "And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus." I trust that God will provide through the kindness and generosity of those around me.
Thank you for being a part of my journey. Your prayers, support, and contributions mean the world to me as I strive to fulfill my calling in the legal field.
With all my heart,
