Over this past weekend, our beloved Manny's was the target of vile anti-Semitic hate.
And let us be clear, this is about hate of this establishment because the owner is Jewish. This is not political, this is a direct attack on Jews. Manny's has been a staple in the SF community for years and as it says on the website -
Manny's is a town hall, a village square, the place where anyone can meet and engage with civic leaders, elected officials, artists, activists, changemakers, and each other. It is a place of learning, but also a place to roll up your sleeves and do the work. We host fundraisers, weekly trash pickups to beautify the neighborhood, activist fairs, phone banking, and everything in between.
I spoke with Manny earlier today and he said:
"I’m deeply troubled and sadden to have our community attacked like this. Vandalizing a Jewish owned business on the eve of the largest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust is disgusting and has no place in the city of San Francisco"
It is the hope of all that love this establishment and believe in the work that Manny's does, that we can eliviate the financial burden that has been brought about by the damage done this past weekend and shore up support for him so that he can continue to do the work he’s doing for years to come in spite of this hate. Let's help Manny's continue to be a space where diverse conversations and ideals can be discussed with safety, desire for understanding, and peace.
