Please consider supporting me as I run the Boston Marathon to raise money for a wonderful cause - Hospitality Homes, which provides short-term housing in volunteer host homes and donated apartments for families seeking care at Boston-area healthcare organizations. I’ve had the great privilege of serving on the board of this amazing organization since 2012. In that time, I’ve had a front row seat as this tiny but powerful organization has grown from serving 700 guests in 2015 to over 3,000 in 2024. This work is powered by a caring six person staff that works tirelessly to support families dealing with unimaginable stress as they make the journey to Boston for medical treatment at one of our world-renowned hospitals.
For the past four years, I’ve run the Falmouth Road Race to raise money for this special organization. Much as the organization has grown, my ability to fundraise via a road race has also grown. It has long been a goal of Hospitality Homes to field a team of runners for the Boston Marathon. While we are still not quite there yet, for the second year in a row we have been lucky to receive a single bib for the marathon and I have the great honor of wearing it to support Hospitality Homes. I’ve never run such a distance, which is twice as long as my longest run, but if anything can motivate me, it is the opportunity to help Hospitality Homes and the families that we serve.
Since running the Falmouth Road Race last August, my father was diagnosed with lung cancer. Thanks in large part to the medical care that he has been fortunate to have access to, his cancer was caught early, and his prognosis is very positive. Other than battling Boston traffic (no easy feat but also not nearly as daunting as an expensive journey to an unfamiliar city), it has been very easy for us to seek treatment at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. As I reflect on this experience, I am thankful to have access to such excellent medical care, and my involvement with Hospitality Homes allows me to share that privilege with others.
Your support means so much to me and will boost me as I prepare myself for a 26.2 mile run in April.
With gratitude,
Marc
