“You can’t go away you are the source of some of my best memories” Dave G. since 2010
Family owned and operated since 1974, we costume middle and high schools, youth and community theater productions throughout the nation. We also serve our local community: individuals, businesses, theaters, schools and many charities. Unfortunately, Mardi Gras Costume Shop has joined the list of small businesses and community theaters threatened with decimation.
We thought we had protected ourselves with a loss of income insurance policy, we even paid extra for a rider that specifically covers " viruses". Sadly, Hartford is denying our claim, as they have so many others, leaving millions of small businesses utterly without recourse.

Unfortunately, sadness, loss, and anxiety have overwhelmed most of us in these dark days of Covid-19.
Laughter, creativity, joy, acting, spontaneity, and fun are in danger of extinction. We can’t forget how good it feels to laugh, to be silly, to be transported out of our reality even for a moment.
We are asking for your immediate support to keep our knowledgeable and creative costume construction team employed. Funds given to this campaign will help us weather this storm and keep this business afloat for another 46 years.
Even as this pandemic passes, we are unsure what the market will look like when we reopen. When will schools, and community theaters begin productions again? Will live theater disappear from the face of the earth?https://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2020/05/theater-survive-coronavirus-art-west-end-broadway/611338/
When will we be comfortable having costume parties again? We don’t know. We are all in this “Twilight Zone” of uncertainty that makes future predictions impossible.
Our mission has always been to support young actors and the "techies". We believe theater provides lifelong friendships and a sense of community. It teaches teamwork, memorization, meeting deadlines; and results in confident adults, who are not afraid of public speaking or advocating for themselves and others.
This campaign will help support Mardi Gras Costume Shop and staff until school and community theaters open again, and social distancing ends.
We are grateful for all the support we have received both financially and emotionally from our many friends and patrons both locally and around the nation.
The world is a better place with Mardi Gras Costume Shop in it, and with your help we can continue to provide confidence to young actors and the energy exchange we all benefit from with a live audience.
Laughter and fun for our beloved customers: theme parties, weddings, birthday parties, non-profits, conventions, comicon, santarchy, pub crawls, etc. Mardi Gras Costume Shop is the last theatrical/rental costume shop in Phoenix. Its loss would be devastating to our staff and patrons.
Do yourself a favor, do us a favor, do those young actors and our community a favor. Donate any amount and keep us alive, keep theater alive, keep fun alive. We have no idea when things will be back to normal, but with your help the show will go on!
If you believe in the value of live theater for young students then please go to this website www.schooltheatre.org (click urgent action on the right) and add your voice. Contact your legislators now!
With appreciation and gratitude,
Mardi Gras Costume Shop
