Support Margaret Florka's Stroke Recovery Journey

Hello. I’m Alana, the daughter of Margaret (“Marne”) Florka. I’m starting this GoFundMe in hopes of raising enough money so my parents don’t have to worry about figuring out how they’re going to continue to afford the best care for my mother.

My mom had a stroke in early October. She spent a few days in the ICU, followed by several more on another floor in the hospital (in isolation due to having COVID), and from there, spent approximately two weeks in a skilled nursing facility before transferring to another skilled nursing facility at the end of October, where she has been ever since. Unfortunately, as if what initially happened wasn’t difficult enough, she suffered a fractured ankle in mid-November and has since sprained it two weeks ago. As a result, she missed out on approximately 6 weeks of physical therapy to strengthen her leg to be able to walk again. Further, due to having COVID, she missed out on staying in the hospital for their inpatient rehab for physical and occupational therapy, which would have been intensive and, quite possibly, made all the difference in her coming home sooner and not having to have missed out on the recent holidays at home with her family.

Her insurance will stop paying for the skilled nursing facility she’s at as of this Sunday, January 19th. Due to losing 6 weeks of therapy because of her fractured ankle, she will need to transfer to another facility for respite care/assisted living for at least another month. This, of course, is an out-of-pocket expense. In addition, she will likely need further care once she comes home for some time, which is also out-of-pocket, on top of the costs of preparing the house with a ramp and other needs to make the home more accessible.

Any donation is greatly appreciated and will go towards her care (inpatient and once she returns home, hopefully sooner rather than later), and will immensely lessen the stress and financial burden for my parents.
