Ayurvedic Childbearing: The Healthy Happy Mother Baby Program

The Need:
Currently the US has the dubious distinction of having the highest rates for both infant and maternal mortality, compared to all other 38 high income countries worldwide. In 2023 infant mortality hit its highest increase in the US for the past two decades. In addition, post-partum depression rates in the US rose from 9.4% in 2010 to 19% in 2021, across all racial and ethnic groups.

Yet the US spends the most on healthcare, nearly twice as much as the other high income countries. The Healthy Happy Mother Baby (HHMB) program is a practical and comprehensive response to the current healthcare crisis being experienced by women and children across the US.

A Solution:
The HHMB program is based on the timeless wisdom of Ayurveda. It is a self-care program which can be easily taught and applied by couples wishing to start a family. It integrates beautifully with standard western obstetric protocols. There is no conflict between their use and application.

This short succinct book will provide an introduction to the HHMB program. It will be utilized by: Ayurvedic consultant students at MIU, by students taking our on-line course for lay people, by parents seeking a more integrative approach to birthing, by our HHMB consultants working with clients, and finally by the general public seeking knowledge related to women’s healthcare.

No country can be “great” if it ignores the needs of its women and children. Families are the bedrock of all cultures and civilizations.

We can all share in Gandhi’s admonition, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”

In 2008, Margaret worked with a team of international Vaidyas and western healthcare providers for several years to develop the HHMB course and expand the knowledge of Ayurvedic maternity practices. The course was brought to the US and offered through the AyurVeda Consultant degree at Maharishi International University in 2017.
