Support Marie's Fight Against SCA1

Donation protected
Hi everybody. My name is Marie and I was recently diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called Spinocerebellar Ataxia (or SCA1). SCA is a neurological condition that affects the cerebellum. In my case, it’s causing balance issues (I now walk with a cane), hand weakness and tremors, slight speech irregularities, and swallowing issues. There is no cure for SCA and people with it can live anywhere from 10-30 years from the onset of symptoms (I’ve had mine for 5). It’s very rare and little is known other than it affects the people who have it very differently.

Recently, I was required to go through a very costly bathroom repair in my 2nd story condo. Then several weeks later, I received my terminal diagnosis. Already struggling financially with the unexpected bathroom work, and with medical bills beginning to accumulate, I have found myself in need of assistance.

This GoFundMe is to raise money to help me with the repair and help cover the cost of my medical bills. Anything over my goal will be donated to the National Ataxia Foundation, which is also an excellent resource to read about SCA.

Those of you who know me personally know I have never asked for something like this in my entire life. Asking for help is not something that I ever do lightly or easily or often, but it’s just me doing this all on my own.

Thank you for all the love and support.
