Support Marie's Journey Through Disability

Hi, my name is Marie, and I'm raising funds to cover my monthly expenses while waiting for my worker's compensation case to be accepted. I was unexpectedly let go from my job as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing in September 2023 after sustaining a work-related injury to my dominant arm and back. Shortly after losing my job, my doctor deemed me Temporarily Totally Disabled. Due to the severity and nature of the disability, I've been unable to go back to work, which means that I've been ineligible for Unemployment benefits. Also, because my previous employer did not contribute to State Disability, I'm unable to receive temporary disability benefits. My worker's compensation claim was denied by the insurance carrier, so I've yet to receive any worker's compensation benefits. I am working with my attorney to resolve this case; however, it is a long and arduous process and has been dragged out for many months longer than I expected. I've only survived the past 10 months by spending the entirety of my savings, living with family, and taking on additional debt through loans and credit cards. As a last resort, I have begun the process of cashing out my retirement fund, despite the enormous loss that comes with cashing out long before retirement age.

In addition to my monthly bills and necessities, I have two elderly dogs who require a special diet and medications which I've been unable to afford refilling. One of my dogs has a health condition that requires evaluation and treatment by a Dermatologist; the other requires treatment for anxiety. Unfortunately, I can't afford any treatment that isn't covered by their wellness plans. As of this month, I can no longer afford to keep their wellness plans either.

Setting my overdeveloped sense of pride and independence aside, I humbly ask for your help to get me through this financial crisis. Every donation, no matter how small, could make a world of difference for me.
