Mario's Journey to Liver Transplant
Have you ever met someone and just thought, "I feel like I've known you forever?" Someone that you instantly connect with and never want to be apart from ever again? That happened to me eight years ago when I met Mario. Ever since then, I have always known that I have someone who loves and supports me unconditionally. We were married this past November and we have been so blessed.
Mario loves life! He enjoys the outdoors and disc golf. Painting is also a passion of his. He is an amazing cook as well. He has worked as a cook in various restaurants in Madison. But the best thing about my husband is his heart! He loves spending time with his family and friends.
Mario became sick and was hospitalized in June with cirrhosis and liver failure. He was prescribed steroids and diuretics. A month later he was back in the hospital and we were told he would need a liver transplant. It was an extremely stressful time. He went through a barrage of tests and insurance approval and now we are so thankful that he has been put on the transplant list at UW Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. As we wait, his symptoms have been getting worse. He has been experiencing fluid retention, jaundice, abdominal pain, weight loss and extreme fatigue. This has led to frequent medical appointments, procedures, and expenses. It has also left him unable to work at this time.
After surgery there will be many out-of-pocket expenses, such as co-pays for the multitude of follow-up appointments and prescriptions. We were told to expect that he will need at least 20 pills per day. Although he would like to return to work as soon as possible, he will not be able to work for at least 6 months. I will be taking off work for about three months to take care of him. I am fortunate to have FMLA to cover the insurance, but my leave will be unpaid. Any donation no matter how large or small would be greatly appreciated! PLEASE SHARE THIS PAGE! Thank you for your support in this time of need.
