Help support Mark through his cancer treatment
Donation protected
Hello,
My name is Richard Frey. I am reaching out to ask for your help through GoFundMe for my Father, Dr. Mark Frey, DC. In May, Mark was diagnosed with a very rare sinus cancer with intracranial extension known as Squamous Cell Carcinoma located in his Ethmoid Sinus. The original treatment plan was to remove the tumor with surgery; unfortunately, he suffered a massive heart attack ten days after his cancer diagnosis. Because of the heart attack, his medical team was unable to perform the surgery. A new treatment plan consisting of chemotherapy would be used to see if they could shrink the mass and proceed with the surgery.
The good news is that the Chemo is working very well! His medical team at Mt. Sinai has seen significant improvement after his first three rounds of chemotherapy. However, his doctors don't feel that his heart has recovered enough to withstand the major surgery required and instead are recommending a second course of combined chemotherapy and radiation for an additional seven weeks, given his excellent results with the first round of chemotherapy.
Mark has been staying with family and friends as he undergoes treatment. He has been commuting to Manhattan (Mt. Sinai Hospital) five days a week for his treatments. That means he drives back and forth to New York City, putting him in transit for up to four hours daily, depending on traffic, weather conditions, etc. The Proton Center of New York is the only facility in the North East with access to the specific type of radiation required for Mark's cancer, making it his only option for a place of treatment.
Being unable to work for the last five months and, depending on his recovery, will probably not be able to return to work for an additional four to six months. All money donated will help with transportation, housing, and medical bills during this time.
Having worked to help heal, educate, and relieve pain with his patients for more than forty years, I have learned that many consider him not only their doctor but their friend. He is constantly putting his family and patients first. As he goes through this health crisis, he remains his curious, upbeat, positive self, who finds joy, connection, and a sense of wonder in each new experience.
Your support is beyond appreciated, and know that it means the world to him and our family.
