Support Mark in Honoring Susan's Memory

Update: God must know what Mark’s needs are more than any of us so, thank you to all who are helping him with donations and moral support. Susan’s Memorial will be held July 13 at 2 pm at Brighton Parks Club House, 12103 Upper Waterford Dr, Bakersfield, CA 93312. We have already exceeded our goal and Mark is humbled and greatly appreciative to have this burden taken care of by such caring people. Any additional funds will go towards paying outstanding medical bills. Again, with a grateful heart, thank you.

My sweet sister-in-law, Susan Sigrest Regier, unexpectedly passed away on Thursday. Susan suffered cardiac arrest and a stroke on Wednesday, and life support was removed on Thursday according to Susan’s wishes. Susan has had several medical issues and has been unable to work for a few years. Mark and Susan have been living on a single income, a teacher’s salary. Even with insurance, there are still many medical expenses they have incurred, and Mark has had to take more days off than his sick leave to care for her.

Mark was teaching the third day of summer school to make ends meet, when he got the call from my mom who was with Susan, letting him know she called 911 and he should get to the hospital. Mark resigned from summer school, knowing the students need a teacher, not a substitute. Mark is currently paying off an ambulance ride for Susan from 2 months ago and will have another one now to pay for. He really would like to hold a memorial for her, but would have to borrow even more to do so. I know he would never ask for money for himself. The family is working on the memorial dates; currently looking at the weekend of July 12-14. We will update as soon as date, time and place are finalized.
