Support Marlene with her medical bills
Hi, my name is Micheline Watt. This is difficult for me because I am a private person and don’t cavalierly ask for help. Putting that aside, I started this GoFundMe page because I need to do all that I can to help an amazing woman. Marlene is more than my sister, she is my best friend. Life has not been easy for Marlene and now she is facing the scariest and most challenging time…physically, emotionally and financially.
To provide some context, Marlene’s life has been plagued with disappointment and loss. As many of you know, Marlene has lost everything she ever hoped, dreamed and worked for in her life. She lost two husbands to unexpected and untimely deaths. She lost her health, she lost her career, she lost her independence and now she is on the verge of losing the fight for her life.
In 2007, Marlene was outside putting out the trash when the wind blew newspapers across the street. As she went to retrieve them, she lost her footing and fell 16 feet into a rock quarry. She was wedged between 2 boulders for over an hour unable to move until she was found by a woman walking her dog. This resulted in her fracturing all of the bones in her face, losing all of her teeth, broken hip and pelvis and a compound fracture of her femur requiring the permanent insertion of a 16 inch rod. She has undergone 15 surgeries to help rebuild her face and suffers from diminishing eyesight and memory loss. She no longer drives and was forced to give up practicing law. Due to this real life tragedy and forgoing compensation for helping many others in their time of need with legal issues, all of her savings have been depleted and she is living on a small stipend from Social Security.
As if her suffering was not enough, she received another devastating blow. Marlene has been diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer. To beat this, she will need a number of chemotherapy, immunotherapy and other treatments over the coming months. While her current medical insurance will pay for a portion of the treatment costs, the uncovered costs will create a difficult burden for her to overcome. In addition, she will need help with home care that Medicare does not cover.
Again, reaching beyond my comfort zone, I thought it only right to reach out to those closest to Marlene, me and our family. Marlene needs help as we all fight for her life. I want to thank you for any support you can provide through GoFundMe to defray Marlene’s medical costs.
Much love,
Micheline
