Help Support Matthew's Miraculous Recovery
Donation protected
Our son Matthew has struggled with anxiety for years. Very recently he started to get depressed. He was diagnosed bipolar, and was placed on a mood stabilizer. We tried to get him admitted, as he was suicidal, but since he didn't “have a plan”, the doctors couldn't force him. We gave him all the support we could, but on Friday, August 30th, the depression became too much.
Matthew jumped off a bridge, falling 60 feet to the road below.
Miraculously he survived!
He was rushed to a hospital in Neenah, and then airlifted to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee. He had a severe concussion with a brain bleed, facial fractures, multiple breaks in both arms, he lacerated one of his kidneys, he collapsed one of his lungs, and he shattered bones in his pelvis.
He was given less than 1% chance of survival when they put him in the ambulance. He coded twice. His heartbeat stopped for over 2 minutes, twice.
Matthew has had three hi-risk surgeries and is still fighting. He has one remaining surgery coming up to repair his left arm.
There have been complications. He is paralyzed from the waist down.
Matthew will never be the same, but with lots of support, and months of rehabilitation, we truly believe his life will be even better.
Thank you everybody for all the prayers. God definitely saved him and continues to.
Please keep praying for him because he has a long road ahead.
He still hasn't been able to talk because they haven't been able to take his breathing tube out since his throat is still so swollen. But he's finally starting to wake up and they think he's becoming aware of what's happening. He opens his eyes, sometimes weeps, communicates with us with his hands and eyes.
We have always lived for our children and have lived for them every day of their lives. When you almost lose one, it shows you the deep appreciation of life and the immense love you feel.
Matthew has already been through so much. He is so strong. We could never be as strong as he is. He is just amazing and an inspiration to me everyday.
Thanks again for all the prayers. He needs more to continue to get through his next surgery and milestones. He's done so much better than I expected him to have done. I am very grateful.
