Support Matty Blevins' Heart Surgery, Care and Recovery

Donation protected
Hello Friends and Family,

My husband of 29 years, and the beloved father of our children, Elijah and Josiah, Matty Blevins, has been diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm. It is a heart defect that needs open-heart surgery. He received the phone call with this news on October 17th, 2024, and he is scheduled for open-heart surgery on November 5th, 2024. We are so very grateful and blessed that this defect was discovered and that it can be addressed before the damaged portion of his aorta bursts, which is very serious.

He will be in the hospital for about 5 days and then recovering at home for 4 to 6 weeks.

The news was a shock to our family but not to our God. We are leaning into Him through this time and so thankful that it was identified before it was too late.

Our family verse, is so relevant during this time:

Psalm 73: 25-26
Whom have I in heaven but you?
And earth has nothing I desire besides you.
My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart
and my portion forever.

AMEN!

As this was an unknown heart defect, we certainly did not have time to save up for this and if you are able to support us with a financial gift through this trial, we have set up this Gofundme campaign. The money raised will go towards:

  • The many tests/labs/scans/EKGs, he has had pre-surgery.
  • The surgical procedure
  • ICU and hospital stay
  • Medications
  • Supplies needed at home to recover
  • Hotel stay, ride share and meal costs for me and our boys, so that we can stay close to the hospital while he is there.

We have met with the surgeon and feel very confident in his abilities and experience with this specific procedure. He let us know that he performs this surgery 15-20 times a year, with 100% success. In general, this surgery has a 99% success rate.

I am managing this page and his Caringbridge.com page, to give you updates on the surgery and his recovery.

Please check his Caringbridge.com page as often as you like, instead of calls or texts, as we will be focused on his recovery and rest. However, messages/words of encouragement, posted to this site or his CaringBridge.com site, emails and cards/letters mailed to our home are welcome and very much appreciated! Matty will read them just as often as he is able to.

Rich Hamai will be our family liaison for our church community at Japanese Christian Church of Walnut Creek.

Please be in prayer for Matty's healing, for the medical staff caring for Matty, for our family and our church in this time!

Thank you, for your care, your prayers, your friendship and your support. We appreciate you all, so very much.

Joyful in Hope, Patient in Affliction and Faithful in Prayer,
Mary, Elijah and Josiah
