Support Matty In Their Fight Against Cancer

Dear Family, Friends, and Supporters,

It is with the heaviest heart imaginable that we are sharing the news that our great friend Matty was recently diagnosed with Stage IV gastric cancer.

For those of you who are lucky enough to know and love Matty, you appreciate that they are never one to shy away from a challenge - even one as devastating as this one is. For those of you who don’t know Matty, words are a poor substitute; but as an introduction, they are 32 years old and an avid lover of nature. They enthusiastically hike the San Gabriel Mountains, identify California native wildflowers, and are always the most prepared on camping trips - known to provide luxuries like a thermos of margaritas and a homemade cheesecake. They are also the most hardworking person we know, a vital part of producing some of your favorite television shows - Port Protection Alaska being the most recent.

But most of all, Matty is the best friend you could ever ask for. Everyone has a wonderful story to share about this exceptional person. For us, it was their taking on the role of officiant at our wedding this past September. Matty was our first and only choice. We knew that Matty would do a terrific job and they surpassed our expectations ten-fold. Their sincerity and wit are still being talked about by all who attended.

Matty is a loving partner to our dear friend Makenna and witnessing their bond and mutual respect for each other is beautiful to behold. Matty makes life better for everyone around them. Even faced with this devastating news, their humor and inner strength has remained.

Unfortunately, the cancer has metastasized into the lymphatic system and the peritoneum lining within the abdomen. While surgery is not an option due to the cancer’s advanced stage, chemotherapy treatment will extend Matty’s time with us. They have already undergone several procedures; a port for chemo as well as feeding and bile tubes.

As more rigorous treatments are to follow, the financial burden of medical expenses is something we can all help with. Every contribution will go directly towards Matty’s medical bills, pain management, housing costs and ensuring their comfort throughout this entire process.
