Hi! I’m 66 year old Roger. I came across Maxwell online a little over three years ago where he was looking for a dad and someone to help him. He was 15, an orphan, alone, and living and sleeping in the streets of Tema, Ghana, begging for food.
We texted for a little while and when it was time to end the conversation, and Maxwell realized it, he pleaded with me not to leave him and not to block him like so many others had done. Just hearing his story and hearing his pleas really touched me, and somewhat reluctantly I said ok, that we could chat more another time and I would not block him.
Over time, after getting to know him better, that led me to helping him as best I could, (I’m retired, on a fixed income and live in public housing), by sending money for food, finding him a room, getting him back in school, and just being there for him, even though I am several thousand miles away. Now, Maxwell and I text every day, frequently voice call and FaceTime occasionally. He has become like the son I never had, and I have grown to love him so much!
Maxwell has not had a pleasant life. Both of his parents and younger brother were killed when he was eleven. He was in an orphanage for a while until he ran away because he said they were not good to him there, and was living on the street the best he could until our paths crossed.
Maxwell has chronic malaria and is currently in the city hospital, Tema General, which from what I gather is not the best hospital.
And that brings us to the present. His current bill at the hospital is $2000, of which I’ve only been able to pay half, and that was from borrowing money from friends. I would like to move him to a better hospital where he will get better care, so that will also cost. Thus I’m turning to GoFundMe and you.
If our brief story and Maxwell’s smile moves you like it moves me, I hope you will help. Thanks!!
