Support Mayana Price & Family's Medical Costs
Donation protected
Hi. I am Shawn Price, fundraising to support my daughter and family during this critical time in our lives.
In February 2010, my daughter Mayana was diagnosed with a rare liver disease called Biliary Atresia. Biliary Atresia is when the gallbladder fails to develop valves to prevent bacteria from getting inside the liver. Mayana had to have a major procedure (Kasai procedure) performed at Children's Hospital in Detroit, MI, on March 7th, 2010, which helped Mayana sustain a normal way of living with hopes of not needing a liver transplant early in her life. Still, statistics show that this rare liver diagnosis only occurs in 5-7 cases a year in the United States. Also, the statistics show that 85% of the patients diagnosed with (Biliary Atresia) by the time the patient reaches the ages of 6-8, their liver has decreased its normal functioning capabilities, and the patients are in dire need of a liver transplant. Mayana made it to 12 years and 11 months before she had to have her liver transplant, which was on Friday, September 9th, 2022, at the University of Michigan Mott Children's hospital in Ann Arbor, MI. 'Excitingly' it was a successful surgery, and Mayana's recovery is going Great! This occurred 26 days before Mayana's 13th birthday (10/5/09). The recovery journey is eight months of once-a-week visits back and forth to the University of Michigan Mott Children's hospital for routine blood work.
We have had to travel back and forth from Detroit to Ann Arbor multiple times a year for doctor's visits and minor surgeries due to complications with Mayana's liver. The travel and out-of-pocket expenses have been very costly.
We are hopeful and excited that Mayana will have a healthy recovery. Mayana and I are truly grateful for the thoughtful prayers and words of encouragement that everyone keeps pouring on. We appreciate the heartfelt and sincere love of everyone and their families.
Please share a comment or post on the link so Mayana and I can express our appreciation. We have hopes that she will be discharged by Friday, September 23rd.
Thank you once again, and God bless you and your families!
