Support McGaughy's Fight Against Glioblastoma

Our friend John McGaughy was recently diagnosed with glioblastoma, a fast growing brain cancer. Within days John & Maggey went from living normally & caring for their young children (Ada: 3 & Chappy: 9 months) to having their lives turned upside down. While John struggles with the day-to-day impacts of his health, Maggey runs point on parenting, helping John, and managing her full-time career.

Though the prognosis is formidable, all of us who love him are hopeful for a medical miracle. John’s treatment calls for travel to his doctors at Duke every two months, in addition to regular visits with his local Denver care team. Also, John’s pursuing a promising new experimental treatment out of Germany, with CeGat. They will create a personalized vaccine based on the traits of John’s tumor. CeGat is already processing John’s tumor to build his personalized treatment. This process alone costs ~$80k, not including the travel costs to Germany. Starting in October, the McGaughys will begin monthly treks to Germany to receive treatment. The treatment calls for 10 to 15 visits.

Undoubtedly, the costs that will be incurred as John fights for his life will be overwhelming in every way. Medical bills, medical travel, childcare, special diets and more pose an additional financial burden as they try to focus on beating this cancer.

Those who know John know that he is such a loving friend, husband, and father. He has an irrepressible spirit that he shares with us all. His passion is infectious. It’s with this love and kindness that John is poised to fight for his life, buoyed by the love he shares and is shared with him.
