Support Samira escaping genocide to study abroad (update)

Declaration: This is a page to support me (Nahed) and my friend Samira and our families to leave Gaza to another country to continue our lives and education away from genocide. Angus David Phaure from the UK is only receiving the money on our behalf in order to pay for our travels. In Gaza, we cannot receive money to our bank accounts.

This is an urgent update because Samira secured offer to study in the UK and she needs to pay her tuition fees. Please see below

Dear Friends Around the World,

Since the devastating events that began on 7th October, our lives in Gaza have been turned upside down. Our homes, dreams, and aspirations have been shattered. We have endured unimaginable hardship, and each day brings with it the terrifying uncertainty of survival. With conditions worsening and our lives under constant threat, I write to you with an urgent plea for help.

My name is Samira. I am a fourth-year dentistry student who had been looking forward to completing my degree and pursuing an MSc in the United Kingdom. I had plans, ambitions, and hope. But today, my university lies in ruins, and my home has been partly destroyed.

Before the war, I was filled with excitement about my future. The photo you see below is me in the lab with my friend—doing what I loved, dreaming of becoming a skilled professional who could serve her community.

Recently, I was overjoyed to receive a conditional offer to study at University College London (UCL)—a world-class institution and a place where I can rebuild my future. This opportunity means everything to me. It represents hope, safety, and the chance to continue my education in an environment where I can grow and give back.

Sadly, due to the destruction of my university in a bombing, all educational activity has been suspended indefinitely. Essential facilities and academic resources have been lost. This tragedy has left me with no choice but to seek alternatives abroad in order to continue my studies.

Now, the only thing standing between me and this life-changing opportunity is the deposit required to secure my place at UCL and obtain my Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS), which I need to apply for a UK student visa.

Living in Gaza means access to financial resources is extremely limited. Despite all my efforts, I am unable to raise the funds on my own. That’s why I am reaching out to compassionate individuals like you—people who believe in education, resilience, and second chances.

I urgently need to raise another £10,000 before 24th June to pay the university deposit. I will apply for an extension to this deadline as soon as possible but I need to make sure that I secure the deposit before I ask for further extensions.

(((The funds raised through this page have already been used over the past two years to support us in various vital ways – from purchasing rare but essential food in Gaza and obtaining much-needed medication, to relocating between shelter tents, and also helping other members of both my family and Nahed's family.)))

Any additional funds raised will help cover:

Tuition deposit: To receive my CAS and secure my visa.

Travel expenses: To journey safely from Gaza to the UK.

Accommodation: A safe and stable place to live during my studies.

Living costs: Including food, transport, and essential study materials for the first few months.
