Support Megan Sharkey's Brain Tumor Battle

Donation protected
We are the Hickson family, very good friends with the Sharkey family, practically family. The Sharkey family includes Sean and Megan, along with their two children. Sean, a General Manager at a screen enclosure company, and Megan, a Registered Nurse, are a hardworking, Christian duo raising their family in their hometown.

On Tuesday, August 27th, Megan was taken to the hospital after she started to experience severe headaches, loss of balance, and loss of hearing in one ear. When seen in the emergency department, it was found that she had a lesion on her brain. After further testing, it was found she had a large brain tumor on both sides of her frontal lobe. It was discussed by her physician team that removing the tumor would be too dangerous, possibly causing disruptions to communication between the left and right sides of her brain. The surgeon proceeded to do a biopsy of the tumor on Thursday, August 29th. Biopsy results can take anywhere from 3 days to a week to result. Regardless of the outcome, chemotherapy and radiation are imminent.

Within the last 48 hours, Megan took a turn for the worse. All initially appeared to be going well after her biopsy until Thursday afternoon when Megan started enduring a lot of pain, nausea, and vomiting. The nurses stayed on top of her symptoms, providing relief with medications as they could until Megan was eventually able to get some intermittent sleep. During shift change Friday morning, Sean noticed Megan was having further complications and became unresponsive, but she was still breathing. At this point, Megan was transferred to the ICU. After consulting with the physician team, it was decided that Megan would need to go through surgery to remove as much of the tumor as possible. Megan came out of surgery with a breathing tube, and when she woke, the care team tested movement in her arms and legs. At that point, the left side of her body was unresponsive. After Megan attempted to communicate, she started to move her left arm and leg. She was then given medication to keep her comfortable and prevent agitation.

As of this morning, August 31st, Megan woke up, the breathing tube has been removed, and she's doing a lot better. Megan has a long road to recovery in front of her as she and her family navigate through the pending results of the biopsy and figure out a plan of action.

Please consider donating to this sweet family as they have mounting medical bills and everyday, ordinary expenses that will need to be covered while Megan recovers.
