Support Megan’s Fight Against Thyroid Cancer

March 20th, 2018. This was the first time Megan brought up her health concerns with her doctor. Extreme fatigue, random loss of consciousness, shortness of breath, a swollen neck. She had experienced some of these symptoms earlier in her life, having been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease at 9. But with medication, she was able to keep most of these symptoms at bay, until early 2018, when she decided to talk to her doctor about what she had been experiencing.

Megan was initially dismissed by her doctor. After all, she was a working, single mom of a toddler, “of course she’d be tired” her doctor told her. But time went on, the symptoms didn’t go away, they got worse, and the swelling in her neck grew larger. After finally finding a doctor who listened to her concerns, tests were ordered.

And then COVID came…which means the tests were delayed and delayed again. Finally, in March of 2022, 4 whole years after initially bringing up her concerns to her doctor, she had an answer: Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma AKA Thyroid Cancer.

A cancer diagnosis: That comes with a slurry of to-do’s: treatment, medication, scans, appointments, surgery.

An insurance company: Who is happy to cover treatment…once a $10,000 deductible is met.

A single mom: Who works full-time, goes to college full-time, all while raising her daughter. Who always gives back to others and helps in any way she can. Who would do anything to help a friend.

Now, I want to return the favor. Let’s help support Megan in her upcoming journey as she fights Thyroid Cancer. The prognosis is good; pending the cancer hasn’t spread anywhere else, with surgery and some medication, she should recover just fine. But the financial toll is daunting. Medical bills keep coming in. Thousands of dollars worth, before she’s even had her surgery.
