The Fight of Her Life
Many of you know Melanie. For those of you who don’t know her, she is a loving mother of three children, the love of Steve Stano’s life and the strongest fighter any of us have ever met.
On December 5, 2018, our mom went into the hospital due to lapses in her memory. After a series of tests and a complete shock to us all, the doctors discovered two masses in her brain that were revealed to be cancerous.
Part of the testing included exploratory surgeries to get a biopsy on the masses. The surgeries resulted in issues that has kept Mel hospitalized since then. Not only is she battling cancer, but she’s also going through physical and speech therapies due to the stroke she had during her initial surgery.
Needless to say, Mel is in the for the fight of her life. She’s the strongest woman we know but needs our help and yours more than ever to get through this challenging time.
Our Reason for Fundraising
Mel has seen close to a dozen doctors in Northeast Ohio over the past few months. Luckily, she has been able to see some doctors at one of the world’s best hospitals: The Cleveland Clinic.
Immediately after the cancer was discovered, she had to spend over a month in the ICU at Aultman Hospital before she could start her chemo treatments up in Cleveland. While in the ICU, doctors and nurses had to monitor the many crucial vitals associated with the brain. She has been receiving 24/7 care. Since December 5th, she’s been at Aultman Hospital, Cleveland Clinic, and an advanced care nursing facility in Jackson Township where she’s receiving her physical and speech therapies while undergoing versions of chemotherapy.
The past few months have been a roller coaster of a ride for her and our family. While we do whatever it takes to make sure our mom has every chance to fully recover, the financial ramifications of all of her care is becoming a reality. While Melanie has insurance, that won’t begin to cover the unknown and countless thousands of dollars from her intensive care.
That’s what this GoFundMe campaign is all about.
If any of you know Mel like we do, you can agree that she has given so much love out into the world and into people’s lives.
