Support Micah and Scotty's Road to Recovery
Donation protected
Hi, I’m Arin and I’m coordinating raising funds for my sister-cousin and her boyfriend, Scotty, as they have miraculously survived a drunk driver striking them on the side of the road while they changed a flat tire in early May 2024.
We are in awe and are incredibly grateful that they are alive and at home recovering after many days in the hospital. However, the injuries they have sustained are impacting not only their ability to work, but also their ability to cook, clean, and perform the basic, daily activities to care for themselves.
Our family has rallied as best as we can to offer as much physical and financial support as possible.
My aunt, Micah’s mom, flew in from California and has spent the past month acting as their in-home nurse, cooking, cleaning, shopping, meal prepping, transporting them to and from their medical visits, and tending to their daily needs.
Scotty’s mom has been relieving her on the weekends, and I have stepped in this week to offer more support and relief.
Since the mothers are no longer available to commit to this care schedule for the long term, and I can not stay indefinitely, it has become abundantly clear that a more permanent and sustainable option is needed to ensure their long term recovery is successful.
This is where you come in!
The funds we are hoping to raise, will go toward:
- Hiring an in-home nurse for 3-4 days per week for 8-12 weeks to assist with these tasks and activities. This is our #1 priority!
- Any additional funds will go toward meal delivery services to help ease the burdens of shopping, cooking and meal prep; medical bills; therapy for the lasting trauma of the incident.
Please read the full details of their harrowing and miraculous story below. We are so thankful for any support you can lend!
Blessings,
Arin
On May 5th, Micah and Scotty got a flat tire while driving home on I-75 N in Atlanta.
After pulling over on the shoulder, Scotty began to change it when a random tow truck pulled up behind them. Seeing that they were in need, he offered his help to change it and get them on their way. (They had not called for any help)
After some time, Micah got out of the car to check on the progress when, suddenly, a speeding car (70-80mph) slammed into the parked tow truck behind them, launching Micah forward several feet and rolling over her and pinning Scotty between their car and the front of the tow truck.
Miraculously, a paramedic on her way home from work, witnessed the entire incident and acted as the first responder on the scene and rendered aid until police and paramedics arrived.
If the tow truck hadn’t stopped to offer help, the drunk driver would have struck them directly, most likely, would have killed them.
Micah suffers a broken calcaneus (heel
bone) and a broken patella (knee bone) and several bruises and scratches that are slowly healing. Her doctors informed her she will almost certainly develop arthritis in her affected knee.
Micah has been bound to crutches but after a recent re-injury, she is bound to a wheelchair.
Scotty experienced more severe injuries. He sustained an open tibial (lower leg bone) fracture, a broken wrist, and a traumatic abdominal hernia. He required surgery to save his leg, and 5 blood transfusions to replace the blood lost. He will need extensive PT to learn to walk again, and may need more surgeries in the future.
*The tow truck driver was unharmed.
* The drunk driver was in critical condition, but lived.
See? Miraculous and harrowing.
