Support Michael Barnes' Fight with Cancer & End of Life Care

My name is Jeanna Barnes and I am creating this GoFundMe on behalf of my husband, Michael Barnes. Michael was diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroendocrine Esophageal Cancer in January 2024 at age 31.

Unfortunately, Michael was informed that he is not a surgical candidate for an esophagectomy due to the tumor size and location, as it surrounds major blood vessels and arteries.

After several hospital stays, surgeries, and multiple rounds of chemotherapy, it was discovered that Michael also has a tracheoesophageal fistula (abnormal connection / hole between his esophagus and trachea) which resulted in his referral to Hospice just 2 months after his diagnosis. This is an incredibly rare diagnosis that has been extremely difficult to manage.

Michael had a feeding tube placed and relies on this for all nutrition, hydration and medication as he has not been able to swallow any liquids or solids since January 2024.

Michael is currently receiving home hospice care and is doing his best to spend time with his loved ones.

Prior to Michael's diagnosis he loved being active, watching sports and traveling. He enjoyed playing basketball and running daily. Over the past couple years he ran a 5k, 10k and half marathon! After 13 years together, Michael married his wife in February 2024 and has enjoyed being a newlywed. Michael is one of the most kind, generous and loving people to exist. This has been a lot to process in a short amount of time and the hope is to have him enjoy the time he has left rather than worrying about finances.
