Our dear friends, Tricia, Ted, Zack, and Michael Rennells, are embarking on a challenging journey over the next several months. In March 2024, while participating in a bowling tournament, Michael Rennells, Tricia and Ted’s youngest son, noticed a lump in his left clavicle region and experienced sciatic pain in his left lower back and leg. Following a visit to his primary care doctor, Michael was referred to Physical Therapy and a Chiropractor for his back pain. He also underwent an ultrasound, blood work, and a CT scan for the lump in his neck.
Based on the lab work and radiology scans, Michael was referred to Hematology/Oncology at Golisano Children’s Hospital in Rochester for further evaluation. Since April, he has had multiple visits to Hematology Oncology, Spine and Neurosurgery, Physical Therapy, and Chiropractic care. In May, an MRI revealed a 4 cm Tarlov cyst in his lower lumbar region. This discovery led to a visit to a specialist at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan. After additional X-rays and a CT scan, the specialist ordered a PET scan in White Plains, NY, to investigate a potential connection between the cyst and the lymph nodes in Michael's neck.
The results of the PET scan forced Michael to withdraw from the Junior Gold Bowling Championships in Detroit, MI, and led to a biopsy of the lymph nodes in his neck. Unfortunately, the biopsy results confirmed that Michael has been diagnosed with Stage IV Nodular Sclerosis Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
Michael will be traveling to Rochester multiple times over the next few weeks for comprehensive testing, lab work, scans, and port placement. Starting on August 8th, he will begin biweekly treatment sessions, with follow-up appointments on August 15th. This is expected to be an approximately six-month journey.
Please keep the Rennells family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
