For those of you that don't know our story, here goes... My beloved husband Michael was diagnosed with colon cancer in August 2024. It has been a hard battle.
He had lost a considerable amount of weight in a short period of time. At 6' 2" tall, he once weighed 260. By the time he finally had to hospitalized, he weighed 134 lbs. That was terrible for me to see happen to him. His once thick and strong muscles were eaten away by the 12cm tumor.
His first few nights in the hospital were a nightmare for him. The medications they gave him did not allow him to control his bodily functions. (I'm not going to go into detail, it was bad) After going for a biopsy, he was told that a colostomy was the only option as the tumor could not be removed at that time.
After the surgery to bisect his upper sigmoid colon, he fell into depression. (who wouldn't) Once he was released and was back home, we ran into a major problem.
He was home for all of a week before he had to go back to the hospital because his pain was uncontrolled. He would cry in pain every few hours when the meds wore off.
He has been going to radiation and taking the chemo meds, and it's only made things worse. He was released from the hospital again, and given different meds. However, the $2300 a month for that ONE medication (with insurance) for his pain is not something we can do. Not when we're already paying close to $1200 for his other meds.
Our savings in now depleted, and we're only at the start of this.
So, here we are, hoping for help.
