Support Michael's Journey to Kidney Transplant
Donation protected
Update:
Mike has received his kidney, now we are in the recovery phase. He will be in the hospital for at least the next 7 to 10 days. After that we will go home, but will need to travel twice a week back to Nashville so that his levels can be monitored. This will be at least the next 2 to 3 months. We will continue to go back to Nashville for weekly and monthly checks for the next year. So please if you can, still donate, and share this post as much as possible.
Hello, my name is Michael, I am currently waiting on a kidney transplant, and am fundraising for the expenses that this will incur. I have been married for 31 years. My wife Beverly is my support person that is needed to receive this transplant. I am a father of four wonderful adult children and the Peepa of 7 grandchildren. It is hard for me to ask for help, but I want to be able to see my grandkids grow up.
I was diagnosed with CKD (chronic kidney disease) about 4 years ago due to my diabetes. I have been able to keep my diabetes under control, but not before it attacked my kidneys. I am in Stage 4 CKD and am on the transplant waiting list in Nashville and Atlanta. I have had a port put in just in case I have to go on dialysis but am hoping to receive a kidney before that happens. I have been on the wait list since October of 2023. It has really hit me that I could receive a kidney at any time. We had funds set aside for this but as we all know life happens.
I am trying to raise the funds that will be needed when the time arises that we will head to either Nashville or Atlanta. There are many expenses that occur in order for me to be able to receive this gift. My support person will have to travel with me and stay in the city that I go for my entire hospital stay. There will not be anywhere in the hospital that she can stay so she will be required to get a hotel room close to the hospital. She will need to be able to get her own food and other necessities while we are there. We will also incur the cost of gas going to the hospital. I could be in the hospital from anywhere from 7-10 days to up to a month depending on how my body reacts to the transplant. Once released we will need to either stay near the hospital or commute from home 2-3 times a week for the first 6-8 weeks, and then once a week for 3 months, to make sure that I am taking the proper dosages of anti-rejection medication.
Please help if you can. If you can please share this Go Fund Me, so that when the transplant team calls, I will have the peace of mind knowing that my wife will not have to worry about the money that will be needed for us to go.
