Support Mike Alfieri's Stroke Recovery Journey

As some of you might know, our brother Mike Alfieri had a stroke on March 22, 2025. He had been suffering for nearly a year with recurring headaches and frequent lightheadedness. He visited his doctor often, a neurologist, a cardiologist and went through many tests trying to figure out the symptoms.
Somehow Mike was lucky enough to be wandering around his parking lot when his neighbor and friend saw him and asked what he was doing. He told her he didn’t know, and when she asked where he was going, he said he didn’t feel well and was going to drive himself to the hospital. She had experience with stroke victims including her own mother and knew Mike didn’t sound like himself. It was his neighbor who decided to call 911 which saved time getting him to an Emergency Department.
After a week in the hospital, he was sent to a rehab facility in Bowie, MD. Four days later, the doctor at the rehab facility said something just didn’t seem right with Mike. He returned to the hospital for more tests and was sent back to rehab after three days. After returning to rehab, his therapists noticed a setback in the progress he was slowly making.
We are now facing finding a place for Mike to continue with the care he still needs. He’s had a loss of income and needs continuing care. The health system deems he’s good enough to go home yet requires 24/7 care. John and Eileen are not capable of taking care of Mike 24/7 due to work and schedules, we both have stairs that he would have to go up and down with assistance and we are not home consistently to provide 24/7 care. Mike lives alone in a second-story apartment with 15 steps to get inside. We are looking for a place of care and assistance but Mike is in no position to afford what the local options are for the care he currently needs.
Mike has been an icon in the Silver Hill Volunteer Fire Department for over 50 years of service, as well as the Prince Georges County Volunteer Firefighters Association. He has given a lot of his time to both organizations making sure that the ill were visited and taken care of as best as he could. He has earned the humanitarian award through the Prince Georges County Volunteer Firefighters Association several times throughout his time in the fire service.
Mike has always put others needs in front of his no matter what the expense was to him.
The financial impact on Mike is causing a speed bump in his healing, he is worried about how he will be able to afford everything that has been thrown in his direction.
Mike will need help and support in his rehabilitation. Since he will not be able to work during his healing process he’s lost his main sources of income and will be struggling with current and future bills including future stays at a rehabilitation facility, rent, utility bills, medical, food and other daily life costs.
We all know that rehabilitation facilities are not cheap for the care that Mike needs and deserves. We are hoping that one to two months should get him back on his feet and able to function on his own which he desires very much.
We would like to thank each one of you for keeping Mike in your thoughts and prayers and for all donations that are made to Mike!
We Love you and Thank You!
