Support Mike Cronin as He Battles a Rare Cancer
Donation protected
Michael Cronin was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma following an annual routine physical about a year ago. This diagnosis was both shocking and devastating. Multiple Myeloma is a rare cancer of the plasma cells. Plasma cells are a type of white blood cell within the bone marrow. With this condition, a group of plasma cells become cancerous and multiply. The disease can damage the bones, immune system, kidneys, and red blood cell count--all of which Mike has already experienced.
Mike has battled hard in the year since his diagnosis; unfortunately, his oncology team at Memorial Sloan Kettering has not yet found the “kryptonite” for his cancer, but the search continues. Although no cure exists for Multiple Myeloma, Mike has HOPE for remission.
At present, Michael is in Stony Brook Hospital. He has been hospitalized for the past eight days and is battling double pneumonia and RSV. This hospitalization is his third hospitalization in the past two months. His illnesses result from his immune-compromised condition from both the cancer and treatments. In the past year, on six occasions, Mike has been hospitalized with pneumonia, C-Diff, myeloma-induced renal failure, double pneumonia (twice), and RSV.
Mike is an amazing Dad to his son, Michael, a loved brother to Jim, Linda, and Caren, and a treasure to his 87-year-old mom, Mary Ellen. Mike is part of a big Irish family. He is a consummate family man who loves spending time with relatives and friends. Mike is also an avid (some would say total nut-job) sports fan. Anyone who knows Mike knows he is the type of friend a friend would want to have. He is generous, intelligent, fun-loving, kind, and has a great sense of humor.
Despite continuous interruptions to his cancer treatment plan, Michael continues to smile in the face of adversity. The nurses caring for him through his many hospital stays have nicknamed him “Mr. low-maintenance” because he is a pleasure to be around.
Michael continues to incur uncovered medical expenses from his cancer care and his resulting hospitalizations. Please consider donating to Michael to help him through this tough battle. For those who cannot donate, your prayers and well wishes are equally appreciated. Please help us support Mike in his fight for remission and a chance to live his best life.
