Help Restore Ms Gloria's Home & Protect Her From Summer Heat
Donation protected
Update! (7/24/24): thank you all so very much for the donations and getting us so very close to the goal! The money has been transferred as of today and the work has begun! We will share progress as it goes!
Hi, my name is Jordan and we are raising money to repair Miss Gloria’s home. I have known Miss Gloria for the last 2 years and she is a beautiful person who asks for very little; so we want to ask for her.
Miss Gloria built her home in the 9th Ward with her brothers in the 1980s. Her home was severely damaged during Hurricane Katrina and, most recently, Hurricane Ida. She was defrauded by contractors who were hired for repairs and her home was left half finished. Due to this, her home regularly reached temperatures above 90F last summer. Her story was highlighted in an article published by The Guardian where she famously says, "I don’t have to go out in the sun. I get a suntan inside.”
A contractor estimated it would be about $4500 in materials to insulate her home and finish the repairs. She is a member of the Small and Mighty Land Cooperative (a newly formed land co-op mainly comprised of 9th Ward residents) and we will utilize our volunteer network to do the work needed. Any funds over the goal will be used to pay residents that reside in the 9th who work on this endeavor with us!
Thank you for reading this, thank you for support, and thank you for the financial spark to help us do right by Miss Gloria.
She’s so happy!
