Support Missy's Recovery from Implant Complications
5 years ago, my daughter, Melissa (aka Missy), had a bilateral mastectomy and silicone breast implants placed due to abnormal tissue and family history of breast cancer. She moved home with me in January. In the past year or so, she has had health issues that couldn't be remedied. Upon research, we learned that silicone breast implants can cause problems. Her implants were manufactured by Mentor. We learned that 1-3% of these implants have negative consequences. Please Google "silicone breast implant illness." She has suffered with most every symptom. She had an MRI in February and learned that both of her implants have contractured and one has ruptured. She's been unable to work and her health insurance ended Feb. 28. We have found a health plan for $95/month. Missy has been able to drive for Uber and Lyft some days; however, pain, fatigue, and depression have set her back. I get $1364/mo. Social Security. I can cover my own bills, so I can't help much. Missy needs $1000 monthly for bills, then $200-$300 for food, medicine, and general living expenses. She'll need a minimum of 2 weeks after surgery for recovery and then limited physical activity for 4 weeks beyond that.
Missy wants to make others aware of this condition. If you have silicone implants and not feeling great, talk to your oncologist.
