Hi, we are Mitch's sisters, Lori-ann Davidson and Jennifer Chiappetta.
Our Funny, Kind, Loving Brother, Uncle, Father, Husband is currently in the Grace Hospital ICU.
On Christmas Eve, 2024 Mitch came down with what he thought was the flu. He was bedridden for the next couple of days. On December 27, Michelle noticed he was becoming delirious and he didn't know where he was. It was a scary situation. Michelle called an ambulance and he was brought to the Grace hospital.
Mitch was in the Emergency Department where the wait was more than 15 hours. They eventually drew bloodwork and gave him a CT scan of his brain, thinking it could have been a stroke. He was still being treated in the hallway as there were no beds. After the bloodwork came back he was put into a room immediately. Mitch was bleeding internally. They did a Gastroscopy and found the bleed and were able to glue it shut. The trouble with this was his INR was high (which means his blood was very thin). We thought this is great they stopped the bleeding and he should get better quickly. He was admitted to a Medicine ward to recover.
On December 31st at 6:00 am, Michelle got a call from the Grace Hospital that Mitch was declining rapidly and she needed to get there as soon as possible. Michelle called both Lori-Ann and I and we all headed to the hospital. He was bleeding internally again. The ICU team was called and the Doctor went over the worst case scenarios with us.
Mitch was then transferred to the ICU where he received multiple blood transfusions, platelets and plasma as well as many other life saving medications. The Gastroenterologist came back in and said he needed to do another scope to find the bleed. They had to perform the surgery in his bed in the ICU. They glued the bleed again but the doctor said he could no longer fix Mitch this way and Mitch would have to have another procedure, that had to be performed at HSC. Mitch stabilized, but not for long. His liver was shutting down. His body was shutting down.
Michelle has had many conversations with the doctors at the Grace and they have referred him to have a Liver Transplant in Toronto, Ont. With this Mitch would be flown to Toronto with Michelle, but Michelle would be responsible for staying in a hotel near the hospital and for all her expenses.
Mitch and Michelle have a 10 year old son Mitchell Jr. (MJ). This whole experience has been devastating for their sweet little boy.
Mitch took a turn for the worse on January 18, 2025 and is now currently intubated in the ICU. We are praying for a Miracle.
We have started a Go Fund me page to help support Michelle and MJ as they move through this terrible situation. If the transplant in Toronto is not an option and he is taken off life support the money will be used for funeral expenses and to help Michelle raise Mitchell Jr and support him in continuing to play the sport he loves (Volleyball) just like his dad.
We have had so many people reach out and want to help and this is the best way we know how to support them during their time of need.
Thank you to everyone that has reached out with their Love, Support and Prayers.
