Support Moanalua High's Music Department's Dream

The Moanalua High School Music Department has over 400 students and offers excellent programs such as the Marching Band and Color Guard, Orchestras and Concert Bands. These award winning ensembles are under the direction of Mr. Elden T. Seta, Ms. Rhona Barbosa, Mr. Cavin Takesue, and Mr. Todd Oshima. Our Directors have a lot of passion and help these ensembles and our students grow and develop to their highest ability.

It takes a lot of help to run a program like the Moanalua High School Music Department. The Moanalua Music Booster Association help in any way they can, but we still need all the support we can get, especially now. This request is to raise funds for us to purchase a box truck. A few months ago, our trailer that we use during the marching band season was stolen. This trailer is necessary for transporting large music equipments and instruments to practices, festivals, performances and competitions.

It’s unfortunate that this happened because this affects the entire program. The kids need this trailer. The music boosters have been looking at cheap alternatives to replace the stolen trailer before the marching band season starts again. I say “cheap alternative” because in all honesty, that’s all we can afford at this time. However, we came to realize.. Why not shoot for the stars and ask the community for help to raise funds for a box truck instead? The trailer would only be for marching band but a box truck would benefit the entire music department. We rent box trucks throughout the school year not just for marching band but also for when we travel for orchestra and concert band performances and events. We also rent box trucks for our music camps and clinics and the rental fees really add up. On average, one box truck rental costs us about $350 per day. We usually rent 3 box trucks per event making our total expense on box truck rentals about $10,500 per school year. If we had our own box truck, we could use the rental fees towards more important things. Each year the music department is faced with rising costs of transportation, equipment & facility maintenance, uniform costs, clinicians, drill writers, music arrangers, and supplies. These expenses cannot be covered by school support alone so we are looking to our families, friends and the community for help. It truly does take a village to support these kids because their passion for music and all their hard work is worth it. Please know that no amount is too small. Your support is truly appreciated.
