Support Molly Gritt on her Road to Healing

Strength, determination, and perseverance are just a few characteristics that define Molly Gritt. Throughout the last couple of years, Molly has had to overcome many obstacles that the universe has thrown her way and with the manifestation of those qualities, she overcame them. Molly’s medical journey started back in her college years, where she was living the life of a pre-med student and was living out her passion for dance. While most college-aged kids are living a somewhat carefree life, she was diagnosed with various health struggles which would begin to dramatically change her life as she knew it.
In 2016, the conditions worsened, and she needed to have a GJ Tube, NJ Tube and PICC line placed to carry on with everyday life. Outside of the daily struggles that those additions made, in 2017 she had her first septic episode, and an official diagnosis of genetic and autoimmune disease came through. At that time, and on top of the tubes, ports, and PICC lines, Molly found out that she would need to have a pacemaker placed within her heart due to the internal pressures her body was facing. Even despite all of this, Molly’s goal of helping others persisted and she continued with her goal of becoming an RN and started her career as a Registered Nurse at Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, and currently works as an emergency/trauma nurse at a suburban ER.
Last Fall, Molly developed an infection within her ICD defibrillator/pacemaker, and the infection spread putting her into another bout of septic shock. This time, the infection required open-heart surgery, valve replacement and a new pacemaker due to the damage that was done by the infection. The sepsis produced large blood clots in both her legs which caused a lack of circulation and necrosis to set in both legs. In early 2023, -the necrosis resulted in two surgeries – in January, double below-the-knee guillotine amputations and in February, bilateral above-the-knee amputations.
We would be remiss to say, that days before the amputation surgeries, (which we are sure Molly would argue would be one of the worst weeks of her life) ended up being one of the most joyful weeks. Her, now fiancé, Tim proposed to her and promised to be her rock now and forever.
Going into these surgeries, Molly set a new goal for herself – to walk down the aisle at her wedding.
We are asking Molly’s circle of people, and their circles of people to help support the financial demands that have already started to pour in and will continue to for some time. While insurance does cover some costs, there are limits to the types of equipment and services covered. Molly will need a tremendous amount of physical therapy to learn to walk again, custom prosthetics and a specialized wheelchair.
Molly is a true warrior and we are in awe of her constant positivity. Please help us to make the financial burden of her future healing be lessened and please join us in supporting, cheering, praying, and loving Molly and her fabulous family now and in the future. We thank you in advance for any generosity you can share and thank you for your continued support and love toward Molly Gritt.
