Support Mosaic Journalism's Future Journalists

Donation protected
Want to help us inspire the next generation of journalists? I'm raising money to benefit the non-profit Mosaic Journalism Program. Started in 1993, Mosaic is a unique training and internship program that offers students in the San Francisco Bay Area a taste of professional journalism.

As many of our news industry funders have cut back, Mosaic looks to individuals and foundations that understand journalism's crucial role in democracy and public enlightenment. Would you consider a donation in any amount to help us meet the $50,000 budget for this summer’s workshop?

Mosaic students learn by doing, finding newsmakers, finding ordinary people affected by news events, and meeting professional standards for news gathering, writing, photography, taping and publication.

More than 500 students from Bay Area schools have gone through our program. Dozens have become journalists or entered related fields such as public relations, academia and social media. All Mosaic student newspapers over three decades are posted on our website www.mosaicjournalism.org.

As the legacy news industry shrinks, Mosaic is actually growing. We now have a year-round program for alumni. We’ve partnered with KALW 91.1 FM to teach podcasting. We’re adding videography this summer. We assist high school journalism classes, and advise a new journalism program at Del Mar High School this fall — so exciting!

All this takes resources. We’ve applied to foundations — but any funds won’t come in until after our summer program.

Even though our staff are all volunteers who receive modest stipends, we still need funds to run our current programs, which we offer for free to every student. If you can support the 31st annual Mosaic in June we’d be immensely grateful.

Donations are fully deductible. I’m happy to answer any questions about Mosaic’s track record, future plans and nonprofit sponsorship. Click on "contact" in this GoFundMe page.

Sincerely,
