Support Mother and Son Find Permanent Housing

This fundraiser is organized on behalf of a loving son, Matthew McKinney, 19, whose mother, Vernia Chambers, 58, is recovering from a stroke. Matthew and his mother are each other's only support system with no surviving family members, and they are struggling to pay for day-to-day expenses during her recovery.

In 2020, Matthew lost his father. Since February, he and his mother have been living together at a local motel, working three jobs between them. On April 4, the first day of Vernia's second job, she had a sudden headache and was rushed to the hospital, where she suffered a brain hemorrhage. Due to a lack of resources, Vernia had not taken her blood pressure medicine leading to this debilitating stroke. Matthew and his mother will need permanent housing for Matthew to best take care of his mom and her medical expenses for this life-changing disability.
