Support Mount Sinai Psychiatry Residency
Donation protected
To our Alumni on this Giving Tuesday (and after),
This has not been an easy year for any of us. Whether you are currently in New York or elsewhere in the world, by now you have all felt the impact of COVID-19 and dealt with the fallout in your patients, your loved ones, and yourselves.
We’re writing now to humbly ask for your support to help us provide a small token of thanks for our residents.
You probably know that few doctors in the world have been more deeply affected by the strain of the pandemic than interns and residents right here in New York, including our residents at Mount Sinai. This has been a doubly difficult time for psychiatry residents, not only dealing with the pandemic on the medical wards but also in the subsequent surge in psychiatric morbidity. While all residencies bring challenges, imagine the special strain that faces our residents this year. Thinking back to your own residency, recall the small things that can make all the difference in the middle of a long shift or after a tough call: friends, coffee, and food. As a result of the financial ravages of the pandemic, departments across the city are slashing budgets for resident meals and other services. Sadly, our hospital is no exception. Our food budget for the year was suddenly and entirely exhausted this month, meaning that we cannot afford to provide meals for residents during the day, at didactics, or even at lunches or dinners during interview season.
We have been continuing to feed our residents by cutting into emergency funds and our own pockets, but this will not be sustainable for long. We are asking you, as graduates of the program, if you would be able to give this year to feed residents. Any contribution is welcome and will only be used for meals or for reimbursement for recruitment lunches and dinners (held remotely this year). I can think of so many days during residency when a slice of pizza at didactics was the difference between a disaster and a successful shift. It’s a small thing, but in the middle of the long winter of this pandemic, it will make more of a difference than you know. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Psychiatry Residents, The Mount Sinai Hospital
