Support Ms. Hollis and Sodexo workers
Donation protected
Year after year, Ms. Hollis has been a joy in the days of thousands of Howard University students for decades. Everyday no matter what's going on in her life Ms. Hollis has whole heartedly greeted every student entering Bethune Annex with a sweet note of "Hey Pumpkin" that mimics the sensation of a long warm hug. And if her greeting wasn’t enough, you could actually get one of her warm hugs. Hugs that made you feel safe.
This week the Howard University student body discovered that Ms. Hollis along with most of her coworkers had been laid off despite Sodexo posting Ms. Hollis as a form of marketing for emotional appeal.
Unbeknownst to us, Sodexo laid off most of the 179 cafe workers in which they employed. A majority of these workers, if not all, are black and have families to support, benefits that expire at the end of September and voices that aren’t being heard.
Sodexo is one of the largest food services and facilities management companies in the world and operates in private prisons and detention centers around the globe and yet many of Sodexo workers live below the poverty line and are being exploited for labor by a multi billion dollar company
Ms. Hollis, the breadwinner of her family, is working to support her daughter & 5 grandkids who all live under her roof. We are raising this money to help support her through this trying time like she has supported us through ours. I encourage you to either donate or share. Every little bit counts. Every little bit helps.
Organized by Brendell Allen & Destiny Harris.
