Support Muhammad's Family Through Winter Hardship

Muhammad Jaber Al-Naami, his pregnant wife Maryam, and their son Khaled (who is a year and a half old) need our help.

The family is living in the wreckage of their home, which was bombed. Winter is coming and food is hard to come by. Muhammad has a chronic condition and Khaled has a skin infection. Life is very difficult and the family relies on their deep faith to stay strong.

My name is the Rev. Lauren Grubaugh Thomas, I am an Episcopal priest in the United States who has been in regular direct touch with the family. I am organizing this fundraiser to help the family meet their basic needs for food and shelter, as well as transportation and medicine.

Here is more of their story:

The family is from Al-Maghazi refugee camp in Gaza. Muhammad was already unemployed before the war (as many Gazans were under the blockade), but says he used to live a decent life. Here he is before the war.

After the war began, his home was bombed. The family became homeless and are now living in a small room of their completely destroyed house, which offers little protection from the rain and elements. (You can see a video of the ruins of the house here: https://www.instagram.com/p/C_3z-knIKBL/)

“We are now approaching winter, and I cannot protect my wife and son from the rain, and I only want something to protect them,” Muhammad says.

He hopes to meet the family’s basic needs with this campaign. He also hopes to open a shop to sell goods in order to make some income for his family.

Muhammad suffers from a chronic condition called Gaucher disease, which causes enlargement of the liver and spleen. He used to receive treatment every 15 days, but since the war began, procuring the treatment has been difficult.

Khaled has contracted a skin infection, as many people have in Gaza due to the lack of clean water.
