Support Mutual Aid Builders fixing Elders' Homes
Donation protected
Carpenters, builders, and volunteers are heading to the Winnemucca Indian Colony at the invitation of Shoshone-Paiute elders who are being threatened with forced eviction on the cusp of winter. Housing repairs, such as wheelchair ramps, siding, plumbing, roofing, and flooring are all direct asks from the community. Many of the elders homes are in need of serious repair, and while we have skilled volunteers and contractors ready to go (and could definitely use more people, please reach out if this seems like a trip you could make), we need funds for building supplies so that these carpenters can provide the asked for assistance. All labor is donated. All donations will go directly toward building supplies or costs directly associated with the home improvement projects that have been asked for by the residents of Winnemucca Indian Colony.
INVITATION FROM WINNEMUCCA (ADDITIONAL INFORMATION)
The ongoing fight with the Nevada lithium mine at Peeheemuha or so called Thacker Pass, is directly correlated to the illegal destruction of Elders homes at the Winnemucca Indian colony. Not recognised by the Winnemucca Indian colony, Interim Council Chairman, Judy Rojo and contractor by the name Bob Mcnickels are attempting to clear out elders and community members to build housing for Man Camps for the proposed lithium mine. Over the past year, seven homes have been illegally demolished, displacing our Elders. Two houses have had the sidings ripped off, piping and electricity cut making them virtually uninhabitable. Winter is here. Elders are cold and their homes are not prepared for the cold winters. Roofs are leaking. Many houses are needing handicap access and heating.
We need carpenters and other people that can repair and restore these homes.
Thank you from the community of the Winnemucca Indian Colony and Newe’neen So’ka’pa Camp
