Support my dream of becoming a Doctor!
English: My name is María Cristina Gil Díaz. I am an international student from Venezuela majoring in Neuroscience at the University of Rochester. I am currently in my senior year, and for a very long time, I have been working towards the dream of becoming a doctor one day.
Since the beginning of my undergraduate career, I’ve been engaging in clinical research projects and activities to gain all the skills and experiences that would prepare me to be a successful Medical Student. Due to the political and economic turmoil that my country is going through, my family had to move to Colombia, with the hope of having a better life in the future. However, they had to leave everything behind and migrating to another country has exhausted my parents' economic stability and they are unable to help me support my medical education.
Back in 2018, I started to study for the MCAT exam and I started preparing my applications to medical school in the US. With the help and support of my friends, family, and mentors, I submitted my application to 12 Medical Schools for the current application cycle. As an international student, only a few schools would consider me for financial aid, and the aid I can receive is very limited. Still, I decided to do everything in my hands to keep going through the application process. Fortunately, on February 4th, the University of Rochester School of Medicine offered me admission to the class of 2024. 
This is a great achievement for me, I have really worked hard to get to where I am today. Nevertheless, the University of Rochester cannot consider me for financial aid. Hence, by May 15th of 2020, I have to demonstrate that I have the funds to cover tuition and my personal expenses for 4 years at URMC, which is a sum of $340928 (including the 2.9% fee that GoFundMe applies).
I completely understand that this is a huge amount of money, and believe me, I would not be asking for your help unless I really needed it. I am doing everything I can from my end to raise all the money I need. Unfortunately, as an International Student, I cannot request a Loan in order to pay for my studies unless I find a co-signer that is an American Citizen or Permanent Resident. At the moment, I have not found someone that could co-sign a loan with me. However, I hope you can support my campaign and help me by sharing it on social medical or with close family members and friends that you think could help me. Español: Mi nombre es María Cristina Gil Díaz. Soy originalmente de Caracas, Venezuela, y soy estudiante de último semestre pregrado en Neurociencias en la Universidad de Rochester en el estado de Nueva York. Tengo muchos años trabajando duro para conseguir mi sueño de estudiar Medicina, y hoy necesito de tu ayuda para completar ese sueño.
Desde el principio de mi carrera universidad, he tratado de participar en proyectos de Investigación científica a nivel Clínico y en actividades que me permitieran adquirir las abilidades y experiencias que me preparasen para ser una estudiante de Medicina Exitosa. Debido a la situación política y económica por la que mi país está pasando, mi familia se vió forzada a mudarse a Colombia, con la esperanza de tener un futuro mejor y en la búsqueda de mejores oportunidades. Sin embargo, mi familia dejó todo lo que tenían atrás, y el proceso de emigrar a otro país y empezar de cero, realmente afectó la estabilidad económica de mi padres. Debido a eso, mis papás no me pueden apoyar de manera financiera para pagar mis estudios en la Escuela de Medicina.
En el año 2018, empecé a estudiar para el examen de admisión de Medicina de Estados Unidos (conocido por sus siglas en inglés como MCAT), y empecé el proceso de preparación de mis aplicaciones para las escuelas de Medicina. En el verano del 2019, con la ayuda y el apoyo de mi familia, amigos y mentores, mandé mi aplicación a 12 escuelas de Medicina en Estados Unidos con la idea de empezar mis estudios en Agosto del 2020. Como estudiante Internacional, solo algunas escuelas me consideran elegible para ayuda financiera institucional, y la cantidad de dinero que puedo recibir en becas en bastante limitada. A pesar de eso, decidí hacer todo lo que estuviera a mi alcance para seguir con el proceso de aplicación. Afortunadamente, el día 4 de Febrero, la Escuela de Medicina de la Universidad de Rochester me admitió para cursar mis estudios empezando en Agosto de 2020.
Este es un gran logro para mi, de verdad he trabajado muy duro para conseguirlo y llegar a donde estoy hoy. Sim embargo, la Universidad de Rochester no me puede considerar para ayuda financiera. Por lo tanto, para el 15 de Mayo del 2020, tengo que demostrar que tengo la cantidad exacta de dinero para cubir mi matrícula y gastos personales en los siguientes 4 años en la escuela de Medicina, lo que suma un total de $340928 (incluyendo el 2.9% que la empresa GoFundMe pide como sus honorarios)
Entiendo completamente que esta es una cantidad de dinero enorme, y de verdad no estaría pidiendo tu ayuda si de verdad no la necesitase para cuplir mi sueño. Por mi parte, estoy haciendo todo lo que puedo para conseguir el dinero que necesito. Desafortunadamente, como estudiante Internacional, no puedo pedir un préstamo privado para pagar por mis estudios a menos que consiga un co-deudor que sea un ciudadano Americano o un Residente Permanente de los estados Unidos. Por el momento, no he conseguido a nadie que me pueda ayudar como co-deudor para algún préstamo. Sin embargo, espero que me puedas ayudar apoyando mi campaña y compartiéndola en las redes sociales o con amigos y familiares que creas que me pueden ayudar.
