Help me fund my volunteering at the refugee camp in Lesvos
Donation protected
On March 12th I am heading to the Mavrovouni Refugee Camp in Lesvos, Greece, to volunteer as a psychologist with the Boat Refugee Foundation (BRF) for 8 weeks. Mavrovouni camp is home to refugees who have fled war and persecution in search of safety. I will join the BRF’s team there to provide psychological first aid and crisis support, to help people manage emotional challenges and foster resilience.
I have been a psychotherapist for most of my adult life. It’s a career I truly love, but I have always wanted to use my therapeutic knowledge and experience to make an impact outside the consulting room.
In May 2024, I graduated from Johns Hopkins University’s master's program in Humanitarian Health. I spent four years opening my eyes, mind, and heart to understanding humanitarian emergencies and the plight of refugees worldwide. I was eager to join a humanitarian mission to embed my learning and to apply myself and my belief that compassion and accountability are powerful forces for good.
Events in the world and in my personal life led me initially away from, and now finally back to, the mission in Lesvos. I feel grateful to be going and happy to begin my humanitarian journey.
The cost of this journey, including travel expenses, food and accommodation on the island, and keeping my financial commitments at home without an income, is significant. I am reaching out to you: my friends, my family, and my community, to help me fund this. Any contribution, no matter how small, will help me enormously. Your donations will only be used to cover my costs, once my target is reached this appeal will close. I am incredibly grateful to anyone willing to help me.
