Hi, I’m Keaton. I’m a journalist and filmmaker with a background in photography and design, but more than anything, I’ve always been deeply connected to wildlife. I come from a family with a history of poaching, but over time, we’ve moved away from that path and embraced ethical hunting and conservation — a shift that’s shaped how I see the world and the stories I want to tell. Growing up around forests, animals, and communities deeply tied to nature sparked my passion for conservation, and today I use film and storytelling to highlight the beauty of the natural world. One thing I care deeply about is changing the way people see ethical hunting — it’s often misunderstood, and I hope to open up that conversation in a respectful, honest way.
This is my final project for my master’s degree in wildlife documentary production. As part of my program, I need to create a 20-minute wildlife documentary, and I’ve chosen to focus on ethical hunting in the UK. With the deer population at an all-time high and no natural predators, these animals can cause significant damage to crops, forests, and tree regeneration, while also increasing the risk of disease transmission.
My goal is to showcase how to ethically and legally stalk, hunt, and harvest a deer, ensuring every part of the animal is used properly. To do this, I’ll be talking to professional deer hunters, tanners, bone workers, and chefs to demonstrate how to make use of every part of the animal, from the meat to the hide and bones. I also want to emphasize the importance of forming a deeper connection with the food we eat and understanding where it truly comes from.
Additionally, I aim to clear up the misunderstandings around ethical hunting, showing how it differs from poaching and why poaching needs to be stopped as soon as possible. Ethical hunting plays a crucial role in conservation, and I want to highlight why it’s important to view it in a different light.
Your support will help cover the costs of filming, equipment, travel, and permits, allowing me to bring this important project to life.
