Support Myanmar Workers on Strike

Workers in Myanmar who make art sculptures for collectors around the world went on strike in early November to protest widespread rights abuses, including physical attacks, gender-based violence, discrimination in awarding overtime and wage theft.
At a sit-in on October 31, two women were assaulted by a manager. "He dragged me and then pushed with force. I fell down,” one worker told her union, the Federation of General Workers of Myanmar (FGWM).
Since the strike began November 6, more than 50 workers have been fired, and the company has asked the repressive military junta to break the strike.
The workers, members of the Federation of General Workers of Myanmar (FGWM), are demanding an increase in the daily wage to 9,000 khat ($4.29); reinstatement of fired workers; a formal contract; onsite medical service; factory improvements to ensure safe temperatures; dismissal of the violent manager; and an end to wage cuts for workers who take earned leave, and discrimination and verbal and physical abuse.
Donate today to support workers striking for a better future.
