Hi, my name is Nadine and I’ve had a run of not-so-awesome luck since May of 2024. Let me explain…
On May 13th, I was in a car accident with a Side by Side. I was in the left lane to pass the Side by Side when suddenly, as I was approaching him, he decided to quickly veer over in front of me. The accident totaled my vehicle. He claimed he was looking for his neighbor’s dog and thought he’d seen it running in the field to the left, not noticing my big black Honda Pilot approaching him in the left lane. I had not budgeted for buying myself a replacement vehicle, but of course, I needed a vehicle. I purchased a 2017 Honda Pilot for $23,000 to replace my 2010 Honda Pilot, which was paid off.
Then, excitingly, my 15-year-old daughter and I took a road trip an hour and a half away to purchase a small hard-side camper for $7,500 on August 7th… which I found to be an amazing deal as I’d been shopping around for one for at least 5 years. Had I known what my future held, explained in the next paragraph, I’d have never purchased this camper.
On August 8th, barely 24 hours after returning home with the camper, I ended up in an accident with my ‘new to me’ 2017 Honda Pilot. I came to in the back of an ambulance with an officer informing me that I’d crashed into a tree. Not recalling the accident at all, I insisted they had the wrong person and I declined going to the hospital. The officer conducted a roadside sobriety test on me, which I failed, and a breathalyzer, which I passed, but arrested me under suspicion of DUI. I spent 5.5 hours in a holding cell that evening before the sheriff conducted a UA, which I passed, so he drove me home. I did seek medical attention the next morning and was diagnosed with a brain tumor that caused me to seizure, causing my car accident into the tree the evening before… might I add, thankfully into a tree and no one was hurt. My primary physician placed my tumor as an urgent matter. The brain tumor was removed at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND on August 22nd, 2024. Sanford is out of network for my insurance company, but at the time I required surgery, my in-network hospital did not have a neurosurgeon. Considering that fact, I’m hoping my insurance company will work with me, but I am not holding my breath. The bills are starting to come in and so far it appears my insurance is covering a minuet portion.
By the time I am medically approved to return to work, I will have been out for 2 months. I have no expectations setting up a GoFundMe page, but I thought it’d be worth a try.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
Sincerely,
Nadine
P.S. Neurosurgeon Dr. Adam Jackson and all the staff at Sanford Hospital in Fargo took amazing care of me!
My family and my boyfriend have been an amazing support. I can’t imagine this journey without them!
