Support for Namarri Shackleford’s Daughters: A Call for Help

Our beloved Namarri Shackleford was a mother, daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin, and friend. Her life was tragically and prematurely taken on September 22nd, 2024, by her ex-boyfriend, David Wells, leaving behind two beautiful daughters, Nalaya and Nahla, who now face a future without their mother.

Namarri met David in 2020, and by the following year, they welcomed their first daughter. Sadly, from the very beginning, David subjected Namarri to mental and physical abuse. Despite her attempts to protect herself and her family, including filing for a Temporary Protection Order, the system failed to provide her the safety she deserved. Over the years, as the abuse continued, they had another baby girl, Nahla.

Though Namarri bravely created distance from David, she was a kind-hearted soul who still wanted him to be present in their children’s lives. She believed that despite everything, her daughters deserved to know their father. Tragically, David took advantage of her compassion.

On the evening of September 22nd, 2024, David lured Namarri to him, using their children as bait. He sabotaged her ability to leave, tampering with her car and taking her keys. When she attempted to escape, David senselessly ended her life in front of their children. He waited over half an hour to call the police, focusing on cleaning up his horrific act rather than seeking help that might have saved her life.

We are now faced with an unimaginable reality: two innocent children have lost their mother to violence. Our family is devastated, but we must move forward to ensure that Nalaya and Nahla have the love and stability they need. Gigi, their grandmother, is preparing to take legal guardianship, but this transition is a significant emotional and financial challenge.
