Support Nancy's Road to Recovery

Hello all. Our dear friend Nancy — a travel nurse who spent her entire career caring for others — now finds herself in need of help.
Nancy has suffered for years with chronic back pain. But a few weeks ago she experienced sudden, debilitating symptoms. At first, she started to lose function in her arms and legs. Her doctors thought it was Lyme Disease and put her on antibiotics. But a week later, things got worse. She quickly realized she needed a cane to move around. A week after that, Nancy was bound to a wheelchair, unable walk, feed or dress herself due to the intense neuropathy and associated pain. The symptoms continued to progress quickly — and Nancy was soon rushed to the ER.
After a series of tests, Nancy learned that her problems stemmed from multiple nerves in her cervical spine. She was told by the doctor that she required emergency surgery to not only save her ability to walk but also to save her life. That surgery happened on March 30, 2023.
Nancy is now in an acute neuro rehab facility to begin the long, hard work of regaining her mobility and independence. Her recovery will take a lot of time and effort, and the results are not guaranteed. Relearning to perform her own self-care is priority one. Because of this, she is presently unable to work. To compound the difficulties, Nancy’s husband, Brian, underwent heart surgery himself only a few days prior. Meanwhile, the medical bills and other expenses are piling up.
Her sudden illness has blindsided the entire family, and they are struggling. Nancy and Brian’s three children (Jack, Emily and Megan) are helping in every way they can, but they can only do so much. To those who know Nancy, you know she loves her family and friends fiercely. Her energy is boundless. She is hilarious and fun-loving. She is also a dedicated nurse, who put her own safety aside to care for her patients throughout the pandemic. Nancy gives so much and forgets to ask for help when she needs it.
Well right now, she needs it. We have no doubt she will fight with everything she has to regain her strength and mobility, but it will take time. Possibly a long time. And while she’s going through that, her family needs to cover their household bills — not to mention the medical expenses.
Nancy hates being the one in need, but the fact is, she really does need help right now. And we want to help her, so she can put all her energy toward her recovery.
We want to thank everyone in advance for their kindness and empathy, and for helping transform what could be a devastating crisis into an outpouring of love and support. In her very Nancy way, she is taking on this challenge with amazing optimism and zeroed-in focus. We love her for it and look forward to celebrating her many successes along the way.
You got this, Nan!
